Johnny’s

1. Drunken master- Jackie Chan’s Best
2. Ong Bak
3. The Matrix- Neo and Morphius
4. X2- Wolverine vs. Ladydeathstrike
5. Karate Kid- Classic underdog story

• Not sure about the criteria for this section, otherwise Kill Bill and Gladiator would have made the list.

I would agree with Private Ryan- But for this list I am thinking more of a “fight” than a battle. This is a pretty tough list that is up to serious debate but some of these are personal favs.

1. Rocky – There are probably better actual fights, and this is a tough list, but few top the emotional effect that Apollo Creed vs. Rocky “the Italian Stallion” Balboa created.
2. Raiders of the Lost Ark – The scene when Indiana fights a truck full of Nazi’s, nearly get crushed by the car in front of him and then dragged by his whip behind the truck. That scene made cinema history for a reason.
3. Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace – I would also agree with this one. The dual between Darth Maul and Qui Gon/Obi Wan is astounding.
4. Kill Bill Vol 1. – When Uma Thurman goes crazy and kills about a hundred guys and then poor little GoGo. Yeah, it’s sexy.
5. Aliens – The fight at the end between Sigourney Weaver with the power loader and the Queen Bitch, once again, there might be better “fights” but that scene became epic.

 

Scott’s

• The Matrix [1999] – Morpheus vs Neo. Come on, stop trying to hit me and hit me!
• They Live [1988] – Roddy Piper vs Keith David. This mano a mano fight scene goes on for a ridiculously long time, and so makes my list for the sheer amount of pugilism involved. Also, repeated shots to the groin.
• Predator [1988] – Arnold vs The Predator. You are one ugly…
• Kung Fu Hustle [2004] – The Musicians vs The Townspeople. Eery, artistic, and entertaining.
• Fight Club [1999] – Edward Norton vs himself in his manager’s office.

 

Tony’s

1. The beach landing and opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan. It was the most riviting 17 minutes at a theater ever.
2. The light saber duel at the end of Phantom Menace. Yea, the movie sucked but after waiting over 20 years, the fight scene between Obi Wan, Qui Gon, and Darth Maul made it worth it.
3. The girl fight in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon between Michelle Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang in the temple. Lot’s a weapons and real stunts. No sissy sfx.
4. Mutara Nebula space battle at the end of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. By today’s standards this is pretty mild but that was the first time ever you saw The Enterprise really dish out a *ss whipping. Good ol’ fashion models sfx too. While not the exact scene, you still get the idea.
5. Pretty tough to leave out the building lobby sequence in the first Matrix. Neo and Trinity, flipping around shooting everything up. That scene changed Hollywood for the better and worse.
