CHUCKfest 3

WeHeartChuck will be hosting Chuckfest3 on Saturday November 5th in Los Angeles CA (Santa Monica to be precise).  Once again we’ll be having a number of activities, including raffles/prizes, a viewing, SWAG bags, and culminating with a meet and greet with members of the Chuck cast.  All proceeds will benefit Operation Smile (www.operationsmile.org), Zachary Levi’s charity of choice, which helps provide life altering surgeries for children born with cleft palates and other facial deformities.

Tickets go on sale this Thursday September 22nd at noon EST (once tickets sell out, we’ll also be having a donation driven raffle for a couple additional tickets; every $20 donation earns you a raffle entry). Click link below for more details.

This will be the last event WeHeartChuck will able to hold given that the Chuck cast will probably move on to other projects after the show wraps in late November, so we’re hoping we can raise a lot of money for Operation Smile while giving the cast and fans a chance to say thank you and goodbye.  Last year we were able to donate over $17,000 to Operation Smile with Chuckfest2 and we’re hoping to at least meet, if not surpass, that amount with this final event.

Find out more info on the event at the CHUCKgasmic website.
And of course for the most up-to-date info, you can follow @ChuckMeFridays, @SerendipityWAF, & @NerdTweetUp on Twitter.

SDCC, what we love and why….

Dearest Babblers, the time has almost come. The moment we have been ranting and raving about for almost one whole year will be here in just a couple of more days. I give you Comic Con 2011. I asked our fellow Babblers what they were looking forward to the most. Here are their replies.

Johnny – Okay, first I would like to say Johnny named about half the convention, but otherwise here is his list: The Amazing Spider Man panel and rumored trailer, Locke & Key pilot episode, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Cowboys and Aliens, Edgar Wrights’ Attack of the Block and finally, after-parties.

Tony – Chuck, Community, Game of Thrones, and the Visionaries Panel. Sadly, Tony has some responsibilities that week and won’t be around much.

Jeff – Game of Thrones! (Hands down my favorite show). Community, (my 2nd favorite, plus I have a crush on Annie.) Dexter, Tin Tin to see Spielberg,  Chuck, Cowboys and Aliens and after-parties.

Truthfully, as cool as the panels and shows are, the thing we all love the best is being in an environment we are passionate about. We love connecting with other fans.  We also love the costumes, the creativity, and the imagination. We love hanging out with old friends that we don’t get to see very much anymore. Maybe, most of all, we love the sense of wonder it fills us with. That profound sense of possibility and endless bounds we had as children. It makes me personally feel like that 10 year old boy, who would stay up late reading comics in bed night on countless summer nights, when everything in the world seemed more simple and right. Cheers to you Comic Con, thanks for renewing our inspiration for one more year!

That being said, we want to know what you are looking forward to the most. And what you love about Comic Con! Let us know!

Obama and GOP Reach Deal on Comic Con Cap!

Washington D.C. (AP) -After weeks and weeks of stalemated talks and partisan bickering President Obama and GOP leaders finally reached an agreement on the Comic-Con population and spending cap issues.  If the talks had failed to produce any deal by Friday night it was feasible that the great Con may not occur at all. The debate raged between Obama, who wanted to raise both ticket prices and the number of attendees, and Republicans who wanted to cut spending by reducing the number of panels while lowering the number of attendees. Both parties, who have lost all credibility among the nations’ nerd and geek communities, were desperate to avoid any more plunging approval ratings.

Just when all seemed lost and another walk-out inevitable, nerd hero’s Nathan Fillion and Zachary Levi, stepped into the panel to offer a reasonable compromise. The final deal, which is being called CapCon, would raise the overall price to $175 but keep the current number of panels and attendees, was signed early in the morning, giving each side the much needed time to get in line for Hall H. Additionally, a special entitlement program for those who couldn’t get SDCC tickets called the Nerd HQ, was signed into existence as well.

President Obama released a statement saying, “This is a win-win for nerds and geeks everywhere. The great American tradition of Comic Con will continue for the foreseeable future. However, much more work needs to be done.  There is still the question of keeping Comic Con in San Diego and the always touchy subject of getting rid of the Twilight panels. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go plan out what panels I am going to.“

CHUCK season 4 continues tonight!

While this is not a screencap from tonight’s episode, it’s a great visual of what makes NBC’s CHUCK so great. The formula: Chicks + Guns x Attitude = Awesomeness! Tonight episode: “Chuck vs. The Balcony” On assignment at a French vineyard, Chuck juggles tracking down a nano-chip with trying to create the perfect romantic moment to propose to Sarah.

CHUCK is on Monday nights 8/7 C on NBC

CHUCK, The Event, and Hawaii 5-0

Fall TV is back and its premier time for everyone’s favorite TV shows. With the conclusion of the mega hits like Lost and 24, it has left a vacuum that will not easily be filled. This has caused a myriad of TV geeks to wander aimlessly in the universe of channels in search for their next obsession. No doubt current hits like Glee and Big Bang Theory will continue to gain momentum but this is prime opportunity for new shows. We had a viewing party for the Monday night lineup of CHUCK, The Event, and Hawaii 5-0. Here were some of our thoughts.

'Attack of the Show's" geek goddess Olivia Munn finally made a cameo!

CHUCK
Chuck has been a perennial favorite for our crew for some time. There was much anticipation as season 4 approached. For the show, it’s in a re-boot phase with a brand new story arc, new settings, and new characters. Unfortunately, I think we were all a little disappointed with this first episode. There was so many new threads started that it felt too jumbled and scattered. While Chuck has always stretched the imagination a bit, this episode crossed the plausibility with all the crazy travel, the new Buy More, and coincidental mishaps in the conclusion of the show. The story telling was more clumsy than normal and some of the charm may have suffered as a result. It felt like the parts were greater than the whole with individual scenes and cameos. Olivia Munn is a perfect guest for the show but she did nothing and was kinda of wasted in a bit part. The biggest saving grace is that the relationship between Chuck and Sarah seems authentic and their love continues to grow which makes Chuck fans happy. Other than that, has Chuck ‘jumped the shark’??? Let’s hope that the storylines will settle down and become tight/cohesive in the weeks to come. I normally rate Chuck as a 4 Babble out of 5 show, however I give this premier a sad 2 1/2 Babbles.  Fedak and Schwartz, get your show under control!

My first act as President is figure out what this show is about

The Event
After CHUCK, the latest LOST copy cat launched with The Event. This is show about a random group of strangers (a young couple, politicians, cops, a pilot, etc) that are destined together through some supernatural event that involves a mysterious, top secret community of people (aliens? mutants? the Dutch?). This pilot is told through a series of flashbacks all dated from the past hours to months. From the get go, it’s almost impossible to track this storyline and all the overlapping threads. It tries intentionally to confuse the viewer and made it very uninteresting really quickly. Our crew was mocking it about 10 minutes in. It was boring, characters were bland, and even the climax had little pay off. My prediction is that the ‘event’ that everyone is wondering about will be its own cancellation within a few months. I give this a 1 out of 5 Babbles.

Apparently, it's more important to show off Grace Park's body then protect it with body armor

Hawaii 5-0
Another old series is pulled out of the cellar and dusted off for mainstream entertainment. CBS hopes to launch the next greatest hit using a series that almost no-one of 40 years and younger can remember. It doesn’t sound like a good idea does it? Before this pilot, the greatest appeal was probably in it’s catching name and location. However, anything would look Emmy award-winning following The Event so we were all hoping for a decent pilot. I gotta say I (and we) was pleasantly surprised. The first 5 minutes started with a fairly impressive gun fight scene involves Humvees, a helicopter, and missiles, which = good. It got our attention early and kept it. The credits rolled with an almost identical theme song from the past, which was cute but unoriginal. They should have modernized it with a little more edge. 5-0 did a good job of introducing the 4 main characters and helping you learn to like them by the end of the show. Action and choreography was solid and overall it contained everything needed to start off a above average pilot. It was great to see Daniel Dae Kim, fresh off of Lost, in a role that can stretch his abilities. His character is in pursuit of a fresh start which may be parallel to his journey as a type casted Asian from that crazy island. Grace Park was the other recognizable actor. Unfortunately, someone must have felt that her greatest asset was her body since  they kept her half-naked in the few scenes she was in. We all know from Battlestar Galctica that Park has great range and ability so lets hope they explore that more. Hawaii 5-0 was the big surprise of the night. I will at least watch it next week again before deciding if it will make it on my very coveted DVR list. Until then, I give this pilot a 3 1/2 out of 5 Babbles.

Chuck Season 4!

No one is more happier than Chuck and Morgan!

According to many credible sources, including Ausiello at EW.com and TV By The Numbers, Chuck has been renewed for Season 4. So far, Chuck season 4 has been given a 13-episode order. The spy/comedy/action series will stay put on Mondays at 8 pm ET/PT, where it will hold onto its time slot come this fall. While NBC has only reportedly ordered thirteen episodes, it’s possible that the Peacock will revisit the episodic order later on in the game once it sees the numbers for the first part of Season Four. Hopefully it will get the green light to complete a 22-episode season, but only someone with an ‘Intersect’ in their brain can know for sure.

Congrats to the cast and crew of CHUCK!

CHUCK is back!

*no spoilers*

We don’t talk about TV shows too often but since we are all nerds, we can’t let this one pass without a nod.

The Babblers and a few friends got together last night to watch the premiere of CHUCK season 3 after being off the air for almost a year now. Threatened with cancellation, the only way it made it back for a third season was because of a fan campaign this past summer. Scrambling to put this new season into production, season 3 was delayed to this year. It’s been too long but better late than never.

In season 2, Chuck is programmed with the ‘intersect 2.0′ which allows him to instantly access super spy skills (ala Matrix) for a short period of time. The problem is that triggering the abilities is still unpredictable and Chuck’s roller coaster of emotions only complicate the matter. The past team with Agent Sara Walker and Agent John Casey are disbanding as Chuck explores his potential as the next generation uber-agent. However, with all these new abilities, will Chuck be able to bring the team back together or are they doomed to never see each other again?!?! Well, what do yo think?

Many of the same plot devices are re-introduced like the ever fragile relationship between Chuck and Sara, the political struggle at the Buy More, and the clueless but loyal best friend Morgan. Chuck is a great, light-hearted faire that pleases both the girls and geeks. You have to suspend some disbelief and just have fun with this show which is mix of Alias meets The OC. Chuck is largely successful because of the loveable characters. It’s perfectly casted and as hopeless as they are, you can’t help but root for them. For nerd, geeks, and freaks, this is a must see series. I own both seasons and will surely own this one someday. I give the new Chuck premiere a 4 out of 5 Babbles.

Chuck is on Monday nights at 9/8c. It’s not too late to get on board with Chuck. Even though it’s season 3, you won’t have trouble figuring out what’s happening. Check out the premiere episode: ‘Chuck verses the pink slip’ at HULU.com
