Domestically, “Avatar” earned an estimated $68.3 million over it’s third weekend, the best third-weekend total of all time. It has earned $352.1 million in the U.S. in just 17 days, The Associated Press reports. Tack that total on to its $670 million gross overseas, and “Avatar” is well-positioned to challenge the worldwide box office record held by Cameron’s “Titanic”: $1.84 billion. At the very least it will secure the second highest grossing film making James Cameron the most profitable director in history (and for the future).
