Look, we all know that video game movies generally leave something (or a few things) to be desired. But we here at BabbleOn5 think that they’re just an Iron Man (2008) away from taking off as Hollywood’s next big genre film.
Hopefully leading that charge is 2016’s Assassin’s Creed, starring X-Men actor Michael Fassbender. The dude killed it as a younger Magneto, and he’s proven time and time again that he is quite the talented actor.
Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch’s ancestor Aguilar. He certainly looks the part.
Assassin’s Creed has developed in to one of gamings top franchises over the years, creating some pretty fascinating characters along the way. However, Fassbender won’t be playing any of them. Instead, he’ll be playing an original character for the movies: Callum Lynch (doesn’t sound anywhere near as cool as Assassin’s Creed II’s Ezio Auditore).
Yahoo has a bit more on the subject, “Fassbender’s character was created specifically for the film. (The movie isn’t retelling any of the existing games, but rather introducing new characters into the same world.) Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.”
Yahoo also noted that filming begins this coming Monday at locations that include: Malta, London, and Spain. Assassin’s Creed also stars Marion Cotillard, Michael Kenneth Williams, Ariane Labed, and is directed by Justin Kurzel. The film will hit theaters on December 21st, 2016.
If you loved old monster movies from the 1930s and 1950s, TITANO is right up your alley. A short tribute film directed by Ben Chavda and starring Irwin Keyes, TITANO is a look into the life of an old character actor who is able to play the role of a lifetime in a surprising turn of events. Endearing and slightly melancholy, the short is a wonderful tribute, and even more poignant as Irwin Keyes died shortly after filming was completed.

THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID! HA!… that’s not how those work Mina.
It’s official. Despite rumors that Chris Pine might be in the Green Lantern Corps, THE WRAP has reported that Pine will be playing opposite Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman’s love interest, Steve Trevor. So get ready for some sparks between these incredibly good looking people.
“Forget it… as of today, you can’t afford me no more.” — Gambit, Uncanny X-Men #350
Tatum might be leaving the marvel universe behind. Looks like differences between Fox and Tatum may make the actor walk despite his appearances at comic con promoting the upcoming film. Check THE WRAP for the full report.
Tyrese Gibson has met with Warner Brothers about playing the next Green Lantern movie, “Green Lantern Corps”. There is no confirmation about whether he’s been officially cast, but Gibson seems eager to join the corps and wear the ring.
Joe Taslim of “Fast and Furious 6” and “The Raid” fame has joined the Star Trek Beyond cast. The rumor is that he will be playing a key role opposite the villain Idris Elba.
Jeri Ryan is joining the Arrow cast for Season 4. Her role? Jessica Danforth-a friend of the Queen Family. She’ll be featured in the episode “The Candidate” where her political ambitions will get her in trouble with a very bad dude.
WHAT?! I did not stutter.
Yup! Looks like Lebron James just signed with Warner Brothers only a month after WB filed new trademarks on Space Jam.
Here’s what Warner Bros. chairman and CEO had to say:
“LeBron James has one of the most powerful, well-known brands in the world and we are excited to be in business with him and his partner, Maverick Carter, and SpringHill Entertainment. The combination of LeBron’s global media presence and Warner Bros.’ unmatched production and distribution expertise is a big win for fans everywhere.”
And HERE’s what I have to say… buuut… Space Jam was only won because of Michael Jordan’s epic slam dunk! How are they going to… ooooooh waaaaiiit… what IF MJ makes a cameo? Ohmagawd, what if Bill Murray comes back?!? hooo boy, that would just ice that cake right up there wouldn’t it? OK ok ok ok. Let’s DO this thing WB!
Imma crank up my space jam CD (YES I STILL HAVE IT!)
Amazon has been trying to edge into Netflix’s territory for a while now, and has finally plucked up the balls to make their own feature film, AND AND AND they got Spike Lee to direct it.
Chi-raq is the name of the film and it’s a retelling of the story of Lysistra, but set in Chcago’s south side. It follows a woman who goes on a sex strike to protest black on black violence. And the cast is big, it includes; Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, Teyonah Parris, D.B. Sweeney, Harry Lennix, Steve Harris, Angela Bassett, John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.
As stated before Netflix has been dropping some serious awesome original material. And PART of that has been the keen eye they’ve given to casting. Well, they’ve done it again. Netflix has cast Elodie Yung as Elektra, you may remember her from G.I Joe: Retaliation, where she played Jinx, so her badassery is well proven. NOICE. Always great to see more up and comers cast in great roles.

The lovely people over at IGN made an interesting connection earlier today. You may have heard that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Fast and Furious, G.I. Joe Retaliation) has been tweeting about being involved in a new DC project, and there has been plenty of speculation as to what that role might be. However, the folks at IGN have postulated that he may, in fact, be playing one of the multiple human Green Lanterns, John Stewart, based off of an Instagram photo that Johnson posted himself back in November. See the image below:

With this upload Rocky also sent out the following: “Known this beast since he was 15. I was on the football field playing for Miami, he was leading the Hurricanes marching band as Drum Major. He spent years of working on my WWE story lines & Rock monologues. Then years of being on every movie set with me learning the film business from top to bottom. Today, he’s one of the best and most sought after producers in Hollywood. Brilliant, relentless and one big motherf*cker! Proud of you brother & thank you for all the hard work. #ProducerHiram #TeamRock #JohnStewartCanStillWhupSupermansAss”
The hashtag to take notice of here is very clearly: “#JohnStewartCanStillWhupSupermansAss” which may elude to the part he’s been referring to. Or it may be something completely unrelated. What are your thoughts on The Rock slipping on a Power Ring? Is this another misstep in the long line of recent DC casting? Is The Rock everything you could have hoped for in a John Stewart since Justice League Unlimited? His comicbook-esque proportions certainly help to physically sell the role. Only time will tell, or it won’t (you know, since it’s only speculation).
So it’s been officially announced that Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and the greatness of Harrison Ford will all have roles in the new Star Wars movies. Whether it is cameos or something substantial no one knows. Man I don’t know about this one. It’s cool to see them reunited but they have aged so much. Mark Hamill in particular doesn’t look so good. Do we want to risk seeing our favorite childhood characters potentially suck it up now? I mean I hated the last Indiana Jones movie, not that Harrison Ford was bad in it, just that I hated seeing one of my favorite characters get dragged through a bad movie. I think the thing that will make it or break it, besides the script, will be J.J. Abrams. In this case I think we will have to pull a page out of The Avengers motto of “In Joss we trust” and say “In J.J. we trust.” Whatever the case, they can’t be worse than Episodes I-III, right?
Seen better days, Mark?
